The Expanded Core Curriculum is in addition to core curricular areas included in general education. The ECC is a specific framework used to assess, plan individual goals and provide instruction for students with visual impairments.

Areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum include:

  • Assistive Technology
  • Career and Vocational
  • Compensatory
  • Independent Living Skills
  • Orientation and Mobility
  • Recreation and Leisure
  • Self-Determinationn
  • Social Interaction

By embedding skills from the ECC within the core curriculum, the teacher provides access to the curriculum as required by IDEA and provides instruction on the essential skills needed by the child with visual impairments.
